Connecting the land to the heavens

My latest print of MaunaKea is up on Etsy! Only 14 of these. So grab them while you can. Maunakea connects the land to the heavens. On The Big Island it is the highest volcano in Hawaii - you can see it from Hilo and go watch the sunset, and wait for the million stars alongside the observatories up there. I carved this print on my recent honeymoon trip to visit the island and was mesmerised by its presence.

‘Mauna Kea, the White Mountain is also known as Mauna a Wakea, or Mountain of the Sky Father, and named after Wakea, the Polynesian god of the sky. Legend tells that Wakea married Papahanaumoku, the Earth Mother, and together they are the parents from whom the ruling chiefs of Hawaii are thought to have descended.
